Author Of Life
…..“But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted to you; And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses”
Do you know what is this all about? Who were uttering all these painful words yet more than being truthful? Who were addressing who? Where and why? Obviously, anyone can tell by the sound of it, something serious was going on so much so that it empowered someone to respond with such furor. Why not do yourself a favor? Why not get to the bottom of this? Why not set the records straight once and for all to have peace of mind? Do you know what’s happening? If not, there’s every chance that you will be in fear and trembling for the rest of your life.
Tell you what. What if you were invited to go back in time through a “time-machine” to a witness a series of events that will either change you for good – forever or not at all? Be perfect or don’t be at all. There’s no such thing as sitting in-between when it comes to choosing between God and the Devil. Moderation in such matter is non-existent. You can’t worship God and be the devil at the same time. Can you?
Even God the Almighty had shown us what it had cost Him to love us! He had gone to such extremism in proving it that He had to take the form of a human being to live among us. In so doing, He had to suffer pain and humiliation and worse, in the hands of His own chosen people who rejected Him outright all because He was born in a barn and was only an ordinary person working as a carpenter and masonry. Sadly, this person with dirty feet, but washed the dirty feet of his followers, was not seen as the right candidate by his own people as the prophesied Messiah at that time.
What’s important in this ‘time-travel” expedition is that you will see for yourself why the death and resurrection of this one “ordinary” human being can become what is now the modern-day most talk-about amazing story of all time. Who is this “one” mighty person you are about to transport back in time to bear witness. For starters, he is known as the author of life because any person’s life could be re-written by him. In other words – whitewashed, if you so prefer! That means, all the bad things that anyone had done would be “whitewashed” if anyone believes in him as the Christ and Savior and baptized in his name. His death and resurrection had shaken the world since his death. Has it shaken you? As he rose from the dead, he and only he has the power to change the destiny of any human beings in the world. Who else can? I shall be delighted to know.
So why not give yourself a chance while you’re still alive to get acquainted with this incredible personality to see for yourself if his death and resurrection means anything to you at all? If and when you are not able to stomach this heart-rending adventure anymore for whatever reasons, just say, “Beam me up, Scotty“. Yes, remember this catchphrase spoken by Captain Kirk of the sci-fiction Star Trek TV series that became a cult classic?
Well then, with the invitation still open for would-be wannabes, hence, would you jump on the band-wagon of this “time-travel” expedition of a lifetime without second thoughts? Who wouldn’t? But then again, be very afraid. There is a price to pay, but that’s how you will know whether it’s worth the salt in the end. As would be expected of this “tour-of-duty cum redemption opportunity”, it would be without unspeakable risks that are not for the faint hearts because it’s a reality that is even more real than you can imagine.
Ready or not. Many people from all walks of life who followed this author of life though at times may fear for their lives especially for people who are living in places where religious conflicts are rampant, but the good news is, nothing beats the prize of the high calling of the Prince of life. It certainly is not an easy venture to embark on, because the journey would very likely at some point, be somewhat “nauseating” and more or less “despising” for some. Here is the good thing though about going back in time. You will know whether you have a heart and a conscience because if what you were going to witness cut to the heart, and if it puts you in fear and trembling because of that, then you will really know that you have a heart and conscience then. Is this your cup of tea now?
The Power Of The Holy Spirit
Imagine now you are now being whisked off back in time. And you happen to have landed at the scene in a house where apostle Peter and John who were with the rest of the disciples casting lots to choose a new disciple to replace Judas. Following this, it was the day of the Pentecost which was a Jewish holiday, and suddenly there was a thunderous sound as of a rushing mighty wind. It filled the house where they were all in. And something fascinating appeared in what looked like cloven tongues and they were sitting on top of the disciples inside the house. What happened here was, it turned out that it was the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the irony is, it caught the disciples off-guard. But it was a promise that Jesus made before, when he appeared in one of his visit to the disciples for forty days after he rose from the dead.
All the while the disciples had thought wrong. When Jesus asked them to wait for the promise of the Father and not depart from Jerusalem, they were thinking it was about a visible kingdom to come. Actually, Jesus was talking about a kingdom that was not of this world. Surprisingly, the disciples misconstrued what he was telling them about the promise. Unbelievably, the disciples were thinking the opposite. They were like planning a new kingdom where they could rally behind a Jewish King, their long-awaited Messiah who could lead them to fight the invaders that were occupying their kingdom. That’s why, when they met Jesus again and were together with him, they asked him saying, “Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom of Israel?” Unfortunately, the kingdom that Jesus told them about was not what they expected.
The Good News Of Jesus Is For EVERYONE.
The disciples had absolutely no idea what they had to fulfill for Jesus, not until after they received power from the Holy Spirit and started speaking in what is now known as “speaking-in-tongues”. Only then, did they become aware and understood the nature of the promise. It was the work of the Holy Spirit that empowered them to speak the languages of many other nationalities that were residing in Jerusalem so that they were able to preach about the good news of Jesus to people of any race just as what Jesus had told them, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem and in all Judaea, and in all Samaria and unto the uttermost part of the earth”.
The reason the disciples were not following what Jesus had spoken was that they hadn’t the chance to ask him as he was quickly taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight immediately after he finished speaking to them. They were so caught off-guard and in a daze that it had to take two men who were standing by them in white apparel – apparently angels, to tell them, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” That obviously meant only one thing. Jesus is coming back again whether you repent or not!
The Conversion Of Cornelius – A Gentile.
Little did they know. Jesus’ mission on earth was to prepare a path for all people of this world to come back to God by establishing himself as the Mediator so that anyone whether Jews, Gentiles and whatnot, would be able to reconcile with God through him. The purpose was to SAVE every one of us from the ‘invaders of the soul’ and it’s the Devil – that is. Because everyone is a sinner and the wages of sin is DEATH, so we are all under a curse and badly needed an antidote, or die an eternal death! Jesus is the only antidote but he cannot just be the antidote to the Jews only, can he? There is no logic at all if God shows favoritism, isn’t it?
Initially, it was not in the agenda of apostle Peter to share the good news of Jesus with the Gentiles and that evidently put him in hot water. Peter being Jewish was discriminating against the Gentiles as dirty (uncircumcised) and not worthy of the cause. But God thought otherwise. Although Cornelius was a Roman citizen and as a centurion he was a high-ranking soldier – only usually hated by the Jews, but he was a devout man, and one that feared God with all of his family in the house. They were people being seen as a charitable lot who gave alms to the poor and prayed to God always. One day, Cornelius went into deep sleep and were in a dream. And in the dream, an angel of God had commanded him to send his men to Joppa and bring Simon (apostle Peter) to meet up with him. So he did exactly what he been told in the vision.
While Cornelius’ servants were almost there, Peter was in the house praying and he became hungry. Before the food could be served, he fell into a trance. He saw what came down from heaven was a great sheet knit at the corner and in it were all kinds of four-footed beasts of the earth, wild beasts, and creeping things and fowls of the air. And a voice said to him,“Rise, Peter; kill and eat. But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean. And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common”
Peter was deeply troubled by the dream. As he was trying to figure out what was the meaning of it, the Spirit told Peter that the servants of Cornelius had arrived at his house and asking for him. After getting acquainted with them, Peter realized there’s a mission for him to fulfill and that he was to meet up with Cornelius whom he had never met before. Apparently, this would be the incident that sparked the beginning of gospel of Christ spreading to the non-Jews.
Then Peter went with them and took with him some of his brethren from Joppa. When Peter was at the house of Cornelius and saw there were many who came to meet him, he told them that it was an unlawful thing for a Jew to have company with other races, but then God had shown him that he should not call any man common or unclean because God does not show favoritism and that as long as anyone does what is pleasing to Him, that person shall be accepted as righteous.
After that, Peter spoke about how God had anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power and who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil. But while Peter was speaking, the Holy Ghost fell on all of them and Peter commanded them to baptize in the name of the Lord. Even those who were there that were “circumcised” seemed astonished that the “uncircumcised” also blessed to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
When Peter return home and related the experience to his brethren, “they held their peace and glorified God saying, Then hath God also to the Gentiles granted repentance and eternal life!” –Acts 11:18–
Apostle Peter who was one of the earliest followers of Jesus was also the one closest to Jesus. But he was also known for his coward act when he denied Jesus three times to save himself from getting arrested and killed. Amazingly, later after Jesus’ death, he became the missionary pioneer in starting the Christian movement in Jerusalem when he delivered an explosive and heart-rending message about Jesus that cuts to the heart of many who heard him speak. And on that same day which was a Jewish holiday saw three thousand souls repented and baptized in the name of the Lord. He got the Christian faith gaining such momentum and becoming what looked like a phenomenon that it was quickly getting on the nerves of both the Jewish and Romans authorities. But then, the disciples of Jesus were not yet called Christian until later in Antioch.
Now that everyone on earth is granted the chance to know who Jesus is, and that the power of his death and resurrection were of great significance in our salvation because of many witnesses attesting to the miracle, there is every reason now, for everyone to look at their hearts and conscience in fear and trembling if one has yet feel any remorse and repented.
As you are about to exit this “time-travel” expedition, will you stay as what you were or will you be born again and become a Christian, and safely say a new catchphrase, “Beam me up, Jesus!” when the time comes.
